One of things that Sister Faith Riccio focused on in her apprenticeship with Ksenia Pokrovsky was how to depict human figures. She admits, "When you learn icons, you get really good at taking things out. It's so much about stylizing anatomy that is real. I have an anatomy book with me at all times. Even though they're stylized, they're anatomically correct." Ksenia puts this another way, "One of the reasons the old icons are so powerful is that they are based on truth."
