American-born Aline Drivdahl lived with an aunt in Norway from age 8 to age 18. She observed her aunt's mother embroidering, and then dissected a piece to learn the technique. This table runner features a form of cutwork embroidery from the Hardanger region of Norway. As Aline relates, "The cutting happens after all the stitching is complete; the threads are then pulled out to make holes. When the piece is finished, it is boiled in a pot of soapy water to tighten the threads."
Although an accomplished needleworker, she has never sold anything except to raise money for the church. Most of her work is wedding, birthday, and Christmas gifts for her family.
