Michael L. Burrey
Plymouth, MA
This curious piece is actually a jug and cup in one, a form with roots in 1700s England. Its maker, Michael L. Burrey, is a timber framer by trade, but his passion is pottery. He uses traditional methods to reproduce English and early American ceramics. After apprenticing with Deborah Mason, Master Potter at Plimoth Plantation, he traveled to England to learn firsthand from potters who practice old techniques. Working with local sources of clay, Michael throws on a kick wheel and burns his ware in a 1600s-style draft kiln.
