In Roman Catholicism, many families still fashion crosses from the blessed fronds they receive during Palm Sunday Mass. Lise Galarneau, who was raised in a Catholic orphanage in Quebec, views her work as inherently and deeply religious. This piece, with its palm frond branch from a crown of thorns tree, represents the story of Christ's death and resurrection. "When He died on the cross," the artist explains, "He was crucified with a crown of thorns. When you really look at the crown of thorns, you have to feel it, feel the love of Christ."
